International symposium: Arab youth and transformations in the virtual world

The International Network for the Study of Arab Societies, through the ENAS International Forum “Transformations”, through the Social Changes Unit in the Arab Region, and in partnership with the Laboratory of Society and Religion at the University of Algiers, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation – Algeria Office, and in cooperation with the University of Basra, College of Education for Girls, organized the scientific symposium. The International Conference “Arab Youth and Transformations of the Virtual World” was held on July 7, 2021, and it is a symposium that falls within the series of symposiums organized by the network entitled “The Expectations of Arab Youth Today” with the participation of a number of Arab researchers.

Since its inception, the network has paid attention to youth as they are the most influential and effective group in society. Arab youth today suffer from many challenges and stakes at different levels. The symposium addressed the problems and challenges facing Arab youth in the context of digital transformations, and their effects on their identity, culture, and relationship with religion and society. It was entitled “Transformations of the Arab World and Questions of Renaissance,” on August 15, 2021. It aimed to present Major problematic questions, starting with a pivotal question: What remain of the Renaissance questions? It discussed the factors affecting the failure of the Arab Renaissance project, including backwardness, dependency, and the impact of ongoing wars. The symposium also highlighted the impact of the absence of elite groups from these transformations. The symposium concluded by presenting a preliminary basis for building new foundational questions for the Renaissance Project that keep pace with the new transformations.
