In the context of understanding the transformations that affected the Arab Renaissance Project, the International Network for the Study of Arab Societies launched a series of digital seminars entitled “Transformations in the Arab World and the Renaissance Project,” in partnership with the Arab Renaissance Organization for Democracy and Development (ARDD) in Jordan. The first symposium was entitled “Transformations of the Arab World and Questions of Renaissance,” on August 15, 2021. It aimed to pose major problematic questions, starting with a pivotal question: What remain of the questions of Renaissance? It discussed the factors affecting the failure of the Arab Renaissance project, including backwardness, dependency, and the impact of ongoing wars. The symposium also highlighted the impact of the absence of elite groups from these transformations. The symposium concluded by presenting a preliminary basis for building new foundational questions for the Renaissance Project that keep pace with the new transformations.
